The Truth Will Not Set You Free

     The bitter truth will not set you free. Or let me put it this way, the truth will set you free but first, it will make you miserable. According to Rev Ed Hird, the problem with the truth is that it is most often deeply inconvenient, morally inconvenient, socially inconvenient, politically inconvenient and financially inconvenient.

     When last did you tell the truth without experiencing the harsh reality of anger, disappointment, or punishment that accompanied it? The truth will only set us free if we are willing to pay the price, but the cost can be very high indeed.

     You will agree with me that on so many occasions we have prayed that the truth will liberate us without losing so much, but by the time the results surface, we really wish we had replaced it with several layers of white lies.

     

     The following are 9 Typical examples of those times when the truth didn’t set you free and you really wish it did.

1.       You tell your lecturer the reason why you didn’t make it to the exam hall on time is because you overslept and he still fails you.

2.       You tell your boss you didn’t show up to work on time because of traffic and he still serves you with a hot query.

3.       When you tell your girlfriend she’s ugly but you still love her the way she is and she dumps you immediately.

4.       When you tell your husband you had cheated on him because of his unavailability and he still throws you out of the house.

5.       Telling new parents their baby is the ugliest you’ve ever seen and you’re ostracized from your group

6.       When Jehovah’s Witness evangelists ask if you have a moment, you say yes, and they end up staying the entire day (no offense).

7.       When you tell your parents the exact amount of school fees and end up with only 2k pocket money on top.

8.       When you tell someone who is about to rape you that you DON’T have an STD and he joyfully tears you apart.

9.       When you tell your boyfriend you’ve had 35 ex-boyfriends and he immediately takes up no 36.

Lying is never the right thing to do but, hmmmm, there are some extreme situations when it would even be morally wrong to tell the truth. LOL.
